VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTER
“The purpose of learning is growth, and our minds, unlike our bodies, can continue growing as long as we live.” – Mortimer Adler
For orphans and widows throughout Africa, education is a lifeline to empowerment and improving quality of life. But for far too many living in the rural villages within Africa access to quality education and skill-based learning is virtually non-existent. Crippled by poverty, with limited access to secondary education or sustainable career opportunities, and neglected by society, the reality of a productive and secure life for widows and orphans alike seems out of reach.
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime” Proverb
In most African economies, widows and orphans search endlessly for vocational and entrepreneurial opportunities that will allow them to support themselves and their families. The need is great to support the livelihood of orphans and widows and the Asomugha Foundation believes that vocational training and the creation of enterprising endeavors is essential to positively impacting their lives.
In 2009, The Asomugha Foundation along with our partners in Eastern Nigeria set out to find land and build the first vocational training center for orphans and widows in the rural region. Since then, land has been procured. Once complete the Vocational Training Center will offer basic computer literacy skills and entrepreneurial and vocational training on activities ranging from textiles to agriculture and farming development.
We are scheduled to open the Asomugha Foundation Vocational Training Center in 2015 . Our goal is to create an environment for the empowerment to orphans and widows through sustainable activities. We look forward to implementing this vision and enhancing the quality of life for those we serve.
